Being a Person of Action
Action!
This is the word we use when the camera is rolling and it’s time to start the scene. It’s a strong word, and it is often pre loaded with a few more important statements like “quiet on the set,” and “sound speed”, and “camera speed.” So everyone is ready when the director is ready to start filming a scene.
It’s a great word and it serves its function well but it’s also a word we need sometimes in other areas of our lives.
Have you ever met with a friend, client, or family member and they passionately explain their newest plans, goals, and dreams? If you’re like us you start to see the potential in what they’re saying and get excited, but when you run into them or check up on them later you find that the plans are still there but they haven’t taken any action.
I think about a close family friend that often jokes about quitting his factory job and bottling his own barbecue sauces (DO IT!), or the one time that I was at a wedding and someone my age said they hoped that when they one day retired that they could open a bakery. I’d like to note to that person that when you’re retired owning a bakery will be and is extremely hard work, so do it while you are young, friend.
Action is the bridge between our dreams and reality. That isn’t to say no one fails, lots of people fail, everyone fails but lack of trying is a sure failure.
In our roles as video creators and filmmakers, we often see people pushing their new ideas but it’s what we’d often describe as a “gentle” push. Maybe they make a social media page, or they post something on a personal social media page about their new business, dream, or goal and then they just wait for it to hit. Some people go further and they make a quick website or at least buy a domain. It’s not enough though, these don’t automatically make for traffic, sales, or successful business. This happens again and again with quality products and talented people but it never catches on and the business fails with them paddling the boat in place. What else could they do to break through that wall and reach the potential customers who would be reached by their product?
If you feel like you fit in this category, lets ask the big question here, the elephant in this blog per say. Have you considered hiring a content creator or a video professional to help get the word out about what you’re doing?
According to Wyzeowl in their polls of marketing professionals, 30% of people lack the time to create video content, and 18% don’t know where to start. Those statistics show us the problem. Almost 50% of people know they need great video content to reach their potential customers but either don’t have time, or don’t know where to start. I think that people often feel this way about marketing in general. Where do I start and what even works?
It’s our goal to make that part easier. When working with new customers we first find out all the details so that we can map out a plan. If you’re wanting to make a film, we want to read the script, know the inspiration, and purpose of the film. If it’s marketing a new product, we need to know who benefits from the product the most and what it does. Supplying a service? Again who does the service help, what pain points does it solve, what are the steps? The more we know the more we can plan how to film it and how we are going to bring your story, your dream, your idea to life.
After this we begin to brainstorm ideas. It’s our goal to know what works so we look for successful videos in similar markets and we begin to shuffle through ideas that would make our customers stand out. In small markets having something professional always stands out, because we’ve all seen the tv commercials that look like they were made 20 years ago, or phone footage that looks and feels a bit one dimensional. But let us say that In our opinion it’s not enough to just have a clean professional look. Again, you need what you’re offering to stand out. So let’s write a good script, let’s make a shot list, let’s create a mood board, and let’s make it visually appealing in every way. Great videos need to be cinematic, memorable, and they need to have an edge that makes potential customers remember your product, brand, and story.
When the idea is complete and we all agree on the plan moving forward, then we can set the dates and locations and answer the intimidating questions like: when to get there and what to wear. If you are one of the people that doesn’t have time to film content, then we can cast actors and send the videos to you or your team for approval.
When it’s marketing content one well planned shoot can turn into a lot of useable content and ideas and that's one of the greatest strengths of video marketing. Not only is it engaging and memorable but you can get a lot of assets at once. For example if we shoot a commercial, business promo or a lifestyle ad then we can chop up that content to make multiple 15-30 second videos that you can use for social media posts. It can also be repurposed into webpage videos or we can make behind the scenes content from the shoot.
